Stax Records is an American record label, originally based in Memphis, Tennessee. Founded in 1957 as Satellite Records, the label changed its name to Stax Records in 1961. Stax was influential in the creation of Southern soul and Memphis soul music. Stax also released gospel, funk, and blues recordings. Some of the artists include Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Carla Thomas, William Bell, Johnny Taylor, Eddie Floyd, the Bar-Kays, Albert King, and the Mad Lads, Booker T. & the M.G.'s. (house band) and many many others. Writers & Producers, Issac Hayes, & David Porter joined the team in 1965.

There are so many Stax Recording Artists mentioned under many, many more that were not named. Co-Owner, Al Bell began signing many more artists such as The Dramatics, Frederick Knight & The Soul Children. Even Rufus Thomas, one of the first artists signed to the label, enjoyed a popular resurgence with a string of hits in the late 1960s/early 1970s.
